Today, February 16, 2026, Czech news channels reported that a decision has been made in the Czech Republic to launch the second round of registration for obtaining a special long-term residence permit (ZDP) for refugees from Ukraine.
Many people had been waiting for this decision, but until the very last day there was no certainty whether the program would continue — especially against the backdrop of the changing political situation and discussions in parliament.

What happened
The Government of the Czech Republic has approved the launch of the second phase of registration for a special long-term residence permit (ZDP) for Ukrainian citizens who are in the Czech Republic under the temporary protection regime (dočasná ochrana).
This means that those who meet the established conditions will once again be able to apply for a transition from temporary protection to a long-term residence permit valid for 5 years.
For many families in the Czech Republic, this is an important signal of stability. It is not just about extending status, but about a more predictable legal position and the opportunity to plan work, housing, and the future of their children.
Why this decision is important
In recent months, Ukrainians in the Czech Republic have actively discussed whether the second round of ZDP would take place at all. After the change of government and political debates, many feared that the program might be cancelled or significantly restricted.
The decision to launch the second round of registration removes part of this uncertainty and gives those who meet the requirements a chance to move to a long-term status in the Czech Republic.
Conditions for obtaining ZDP in the Czech Republic
To apply for a special long-term residence permit (ZDP), the established requirements must be met.
Main conditions:
valid temporary protection (dočasná ochrana) in the Czech Republic
residence in the Czech Republic for at least 2 years under temporary protection (the period is counted from the date it was officially granted, provided the status has been continuous)
officially confirmed income
no outstanding tax or health insurance debts
no receipt of humanitarian assistance
confirmed legal residence (rental agreement or other proof of accommodation)
if there are school-age children, their actual attendance at school in the Czech Republic.
The financial requirement is set as follows:
CZK 440,000 per year – for the first applicant
+ CZK 110,000 per year – for each additional family member.
Example:
A family of three (husband, wife, child) must confirm a total annual gross income of at least CZK 660,000.
Important:
The application must be submitted by the entire family (the entire household), not by individual members separately.
If spouses and minor children live together under temporary protection, then:
the application is submitted simultaneously for the entire family
income is assessed collectively for the whole household
applying by only one spouse with subsequent family reunification under the standard procedure is not provided.
Advice from CESTA K INTEGRACI
Many are already aware of unsuccessful attempts by some applicants during the first stage of applications for the special long-term residence permit, and the reasons for refusals have been discussed more than once. We recommend carefully considering all weak points, as no relaxations are expected in the second stage.
