Will foreigners be affected by the new rules on TV and radio fees in Czechia from May 1, 2025?

As of May 1, 2025, amendments to the Czech law on radio and TV fees (Act No. 348/2005 Coll.) came into force. They expand the scope of people obliged to pay and increase the fees. Will foreigners be affected by the new rules on TV and radio fees in Czechia from May 1, 2025?

Main changes:

• More people must pay: not only TV/radio owners but also users of devices receiving signals via internet — smartphones, tablets, computers.

• Fee increase: TV fee now CZK 150/month, radio fee CZK 55/month.

• Business rules: companies with fewer than 24 employees are exempt. Larger firms pay based on staff size.

Important:

• Exemptions remain: people under temporary protection (dočasná ochrana) or with a tolerance visa (vízum strpění) do not pay. But if someone in the household has long-term (dlouhodobý pobyt) or permanent residence (trvalý pobyt), the whole household must pay.
